Today I am going to talk a little bit about growing an online poker bankroll. This plan is for the new online poker play, yet a poker player with some skills and can play at least break even poker in a live casino.
This article is based on growing a poker bankroll, using the first deposit bonuses offered at the online poker sites. This simple, yet effective system relies on three main elements: reading online poker reviews, maximizing bonuses and playing at appropriate limits.
The goal is to play tight, non-imaginative poker at fairly low levels and work off first deposit bonuses. A new online player can literally make thousands of dollars this way, and it is simple.
Reading Poker Reviews
It is important to find a site that lists all the current bonuses for many online poker sites. You will use this site to find your next new site, after cashing out your bankroll when you have completed the bonus requirements. First find an online poker site that sounds good to you, be sure to read all the bonus fine print, and sign up. Make you first deposit, for the exact amount that maximizes the deposit bonus, and grind low limits.
A very standard first time bonus offer is 100% up to $600. This means you get a 100% bonus on your first deposit, up to $600. To maximize this bonus you would deposit $600 into the poker site. Each site will have play through requirements for you to earn the bonus (remember that is the point, the site wants you to play.). Some sites will release some of the bonus as you play, other require you to earn the entire amount.
Be sure to read all the fine print about the bonus offer, know what you are getting into. The money is real, and poker sites award the bonuses, but the do it so you will play poker. You will always have some type of playing requirements, and if the bonus is only released in a lump sum you must be sure you can clear it before you deposit.
Playing at the Appropriate Limits
This is were a lot of poker players get into trouble. They figure if they double their stakes, they will clear the bonus twice as fast. Of course it is easy to see this is really just a great way to lose your bankroll. If you are going to use the sites bonus to grow your bankroll, it is of utmost importance to play at a stake you can beat or break even at.
When you first start playing online poker you need to play significantly lower limits then you do live. The game is at least three times as fast as live game, and you can not see the other players. It will take some time for adjustment to the game, the software and you will want to take it slow.
Playing online poker is a lot of fun, and offers many advantages over live poker. If you take it slow, and make smart decisions you can make a nice amount of money playing online poker. If you haven’t tried it yet, why not give it a go?
