Nevada Will License Online Poker

Online Poker Site Review » Online Poker » Nevada Will License Online Poker

The Nevada Gaming Control Board will begin taking applications to license companies to operate Internet poker sites beginning in February, according to a state gaming regulator. Nevada law already allows for some remote gaming for sports betting. With the new poker license ,companies would be able to offer online poker play within the state’s boundaries in a similar closed-loop setting.

License holders wouldn’t be allowed to offer online poker play to people living outside Nevada’s borders. It is expected that the process will be quicker for companies already holding other licenses in Nevada.

The federal Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act prohibits companies from accepting payments related to online wagering, but allows several exceptions, including intrastate and intra-tribal wagering and fantasy sports. Nevada is taking the stance this will be allowed under federal law.

The new online poker license is sure to be a boon to the struggling Nevada economy. I hope them success, and perhaps federal law will shift to reopen the internet poker market in the US.
